How to Fix Windows Store not working

 If you are using Windows 10 or 8, you might at one point discover that your Windows Store isn't working. You should be frustrated for there is a quick fix. Check below how to fix Windows Store or Microsoft Store not working in just a few minutes.

Although not the most popular store to get software and apps for your Windows computer, there are still some apps you can easily get only from the Windows, and it will be pretty easier for your downloading app from the store in just one-click.

So, now that your Windows store isn't working, how to do you go about fixing it? Continue reading below to find out.

What to do if Windows Store or Microsoft Store isn't working

Before trying to think far as to why your Windows store isn't working, first of all, you should check that;
  1. Windows is up to date: Select check for updates now, and then select Check for updates.  Or, select the Start  button, then select Settings  > Update & Security  > Windows Update  > Check for Updates. If there is an available update, select Install now.
  2. UAC (User Account Control) is enabled
  3. Your Video Card/GPU drivers are up to date
And if all the above conditions are met and the Store app isn't working, you can then use any of the following approaches:

Make sure Windows Update isn't turned off.

One of the first things you should check when you launch the Windows Store or Microsoft Store app and gets an error is to ensure that you haven't turned off Windows Updates.
How to Fix Windows Store not working

  • To do this, simply use the search icon to search for "services" and launch the services app. Alternatively, you can press the WIN + R key to open the runner and type in "services.msc" then hit the Enter Key.
  • Once the Services app opens, scroll down and locate the Windows Update service. Service has the following Startup types;
    • Automatic - With a service in this state, it will start at boot time. Some services, when no longer required, will also automatically stop when not needed. If you find you do not need a service, place it into Manual or Disabled.
    • Automatic (Delayed Start) - With a service in this state, it will start just after boot time. Some services, when no longer required, will also automatically stop when not needed. If you find you do not need a service, place it into Manual or Disabled.
    • Automatic (Delayed Start, Trigger Start) - With a service in this state, it will start just after boot when specifically called.
    • Manual (Trigger Start) - This is a version of Manual mode that allows Windows to start a service when specifically called and Microsoft’s answer to “too many services running all the time”.
    • Manual - Manual mode allows Windows to start a service when needed. However, very few services will start up when required in Manual mode. If you find you need a service, place it into Automatic.
    • Disabled - This setting will stop a service from starting, even if needed. Errors in the Event Viewer will show up complaining of that fact. Some services, while Disabled, will constantly complain. However, this situation is taken care of if placed in Manual. The service descriptions identify those that should be in Manual vice Disabled.
  • And since your aim is to make sure the Windows Update is active, change the state to "Automatic".
  • Reboot your computer and try opening the Windows Store app again.

Make sure you aren't using a VPN

In most cases, when you are on VPN, the Windows Store won't work. So, if this is your case, all you have to do is turn off your VPN connection and connect via the connection from your local IPS.

Reset Windows Store

Another quick fix for the Windows Store not working is to rest it. You have the option to reset Windows apps as of the Anniversary Update, which will clear their cache and data, essentially making them like new.

Proceed as follows to reset your Windows Store;
  1. Click the Windows Start button
  2. Next, go to Apps and Features
  3. Now, scroll down to "Store".
  4. Click on the Store app and go to "Advanced Options" and in the new window, click Reset. You’ll receive a warning that you’ll lose data on this app. Click "Reset" again, and you’re done.

Update Microsoft Store

To Update the Microsoft Store, proceed thus;
  1. Select the Start button, and then from the apps list, select Microsoft Store.
  2. In Microsoft Store, select See more  > Downloads and updates > Get updates.
  3. If an update for Microsoft Store is available, it will start installing automatically.

Reinstall the Windows Store

sometimes the best way to fix the problems with the Windows Store is to reinstall. To do this, you will first have to uninstall the app and then reinstall it again.
How to Fix Windows Store not working

  • Press the Win key, type PowerShell, right-click it in the search results, then "Run as administrator".
  • Enter the following command in PowerShell: Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers
  • Find the MS Store package name in the listing of the installed package. The easiest way to do this is to go to Edit on PS and use the find function searching for a store. Copy the Full Package Name. Should be something like Microsoft.WindowsStore_2015.7.1.0_x64__8wekyb3d8acb
  • Next, enter the following command in PS: remove-appxpackage insert copied package name here.
  • Alternatively, just use this: get-appxpackage * store * | remove-appxpackage.
  • And once the Store app is removed, reboot your computer.
  • Next, reinstall using: Get-AppxPackage -allusers Microsoft.WindowsStore | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
