A couple of months back, WhatsApp rolled-out the fingerprint feature and the FaceID lock screen on the iOS version of their App. Android users were wondering if this awesome feature which they could only get via MODs could finally be implemented on the official app. The good news is the wait is over for Android users. WhatsApp has finally added the fingerprint lock screen feature on the Android app version.
With this in place, Android users can now have an extra layer of security. Although this isn't quite a surprising innovation since Mods like FmwatsApp and WhatsApp Aero already have similar features in place.
The fingerprint feature is finally coming to the Android app version after a report from WABetainfo. They had spotted this feature on a beta version(2.19.221 Android beta version) of the WhatsApp app for Android.
Just like the Touch ID feature enabled for iPhone users, WhatsApp(WhatsApp version 2.19.308) for Android users will now be able to choose to lock their WhatsApp with their fingerprints as authentication. Use can as well choose for how long it will take for the lock to automatically activate after it has been configured. With this feature, they can also choose to hide the content of their messages in notifications
This new feature can be enabled from within the app's privacy settings. To enable it, tap Settings > Account > Privacy > Fingerprint lock. Turn on Unlock with fingerprint, and confirm your fingerprint.
The feature although already rolled-out may not be available yet in all regions. Also, it will also be available for devices with the fingerprint sensor.
