After their ban from using Google's Operating System — Android, rumours have been going on about Huawei's new Operating System which is even said to be 60% faster than the Android OS.
According to sources, Huawei is busy testing its smartphone designed with self-developed OS HongMeng, and the phone could be put into the market at the end of this year, with prices fixed at around 2,000 yuan ($288.24) to attract software developers and users to join the ecosystem.
According to Global Times, the Android OS alternative HongMeng OS is set to be released at Huawei's Developer Conference on August 9 in Dongguan, South China's Guangdong Province.
The HongMeng OS which according to Huawei Executives in earlier interviews said was primarily intended for the Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial use may expand to the smartphone business. This will be a means for the company to maintain its position in the market while being cut off from Google's supply of Android.
The US' blunt breach of the agreement reached between China and the US during the G20 summit in late June has cast a shadow on the resumption of Android OS supply. As such, some media reported that Huawei is continuing to carry out tests on smartphones loaded with the HongMeng OS despite downplaying the system's use in smartphones, says Global Times.
Huawei was banned by the US government and getting access to US technologies. The ban also restricts Huawei from using the Windows operating systems on their laptops with the accusations that their gadgets could be used by the Chinese government for cyber espionage, a thing that Huawei denies and the US hasn't been able to prove.
Also, according to Huawei, the first batch of devices to be equipped with the HongMeng OS will be the Honor Smart TV series.
In addition to smartphones and industrial use, Huawei plans to make the HongMeng OS run on many platforms and facilitate IoT. The source disclosed that unlike the Android system which is based on the Linux kernel, Huawei's idea of developing HongMeng is similar to Google's Fuchsia OS and is based on a microkernel which can better accommodate artificial intelligence (AI) and can run on multiple platforms.
